General description

Magnesium sulfate is a magnesium salt with tocolytic ability.[1] Its role to induce an analgesic effect during intraoperative and postoperative periods has been investigated.[2] It is reported to prevent eclampsia.[3] Its ability to remove water from water-miscible solvents by salting-out phase separation has been studied.[4]

Application

Magnesium sulfate (anhydrous) can be used as a catalyst:
  • In Biginelli reactions to synthesize dihydropyrimidinones by solvent-free conditions.[5]
  • In the synthesis of 2-imidazolines by the reaction of aldehydes and ethylenediamine in the presence of hydrogen peroxide and sodium iodide.[6]

The mixture of MgSO4 and bayerite is used to prepare single-phase,MgAl2O4 spinel nanoparticles by calcining the powder mixture at 800 oC.[7]
MgSO4 (anhydrous) can also be used as a drying agent in organic synthesis for the removal of traces of water from organic extracts.
Magnesium sulfate may be used as a drying agent for organic extracts.[8]

Questions

1–4 of 4 Questions
  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  2. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. 3. Is this product in a glass bottle or plastic bottle? If plastic, is it BPA-free?

    1 answer
    1. The product comes in a white high density polyethylene bottle and the product is free from PBA.

  4. What is the particle size for product M7506, magnesium sulfate?

    1 answer
    1. The product does not have a specified particle size. However, it is indicated that all of the material passes through a 50 mesh screen, suggesting that the particles should be smaller than 300 microns in size.
