General description

Lithium chloride (LiCl) participates in the Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons reactions of base-sensitive aldehydes and phosphonates. LiCl/N,N-Dimethylacetamide (DMAc) solvent system has been employed for dissolution of cellulose and synthesis of various cellulose derivatives (cellulose esters, carbamates, sulphonates and ethers). It can be synthesized from lithium carbonate (Li2CO3).

Application

Lithium chloride (LiCl) may be used in the synthesis of lithium perchlorate by reacting with perchloric acid.
