General description

N,N-Di-N-hexylaniline is N,N-dialkylaniline. It can be prepared by refluxing a mixture of aniline, iodohexane and potassium carbonate in ethanol.[1]

Application

N,N-Di-N-hexylaniline (N,N-dihexylaniline) may be used to synthesize:
  • 4-formyl-N,N-dihexylaniline[1]
  • N,N′-bis[(4-(N,N-dihexylamino)benzylidene]diaminofumaronitrile, a bisazomethine dye[2]
  • 4-(dihexylamino)benzaldehyde[3]
