General description

Thymoquinone (TQ), also known as 2-isopropyl-5-methyl-1, 4-benzoquinone, is present in a crystalline triclinic form. It is the bioactive constituent of the volatile oil of black seed. TQ exhibits anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-neoplastic effects both in vitro and in vivo.[1]

Application

Thymoquinone has been used as an inhibitor of Escherichia coli ATP synthase and cell growth. It is also used as a drug against lower limb ischemia-reperfusion injury of the sciatic nerve and femoral muscle.[2]
Thymoquinone is employed in preclinical studies as a neuroprotective and anticonvulsant agent.

Questions

1–2 of 2 Questions
  1. Can this substance be used for loading into liposomes?

    1 answer
    1. This product has not been tested specifically for liposomal delivery systems. As such, we would refer to the academic literature to see if similar experiments utilizing thymoquinone have successfully been loaded into liposomes.

  2. Hello I've bought 1 gram of Thymoquinone (product number: 274666) and I wanna use this in different concenteration for MTT assay. Could you please tell me that in which solvent I should dissolve the powder and How can I dillute it with PBS?

    1 answer
    1. The solubility of this product is not determined. For analytical purposes, the material is heated to form a liquid and is tested in the neat form. Various sources indicate that this compound is soluble in DMSO, DMF, and Ethanol. Please see the link below to review a publication that indicates stock solutions may then be further diluted in phosphate buffer:
